Designed by Matsuzaki Munakasa, the structure was completed in 1908
and located diagonally across the street from the second-generation Taipei Railway Station.
It was then renowned for being the most advanced and luxurious hotel in Taiwan.
Taiwan Railway Hotel was also the only Western-style hotel in Taiwan of the time.
The exterior featured red bricks and white bands and crowned with heavy Mansard roof.
The entry porch was large enough that vehicles can drive through
and park directly in front of the lobby, a symbol of modernity for a hotel.
