\u5abd\u7956\u986f\u8056\u7684\u795e\u8e5f\u3001\u50b3\u8aaa\u8207\u6545\u4e8b\u662f\u795e\u8056\u7684\u8868\u610f\uff0c\u8207\u6c11\u773e\u751f\u6d3b\u7684\u73fe\u5be6\u9700\u6c42\u76f8\u95dc\u806f\u3002\u56e0\u6642\u7a7a\u7684\u5dee\u7570\u8207\u65cf\u7fa4\u5404\u81ea\u4e0d\u540c\u7684\u80cc\u666f\uff0c\u6703\u7522\u751f\u4e0d\u540c\u7684\u89e3\u8b80\u3001\u611f\u53d7\u6216\u8a8d\u77e5\u3002\u9748\u61c9\u4e8b\u8e5f\u7684\u5167\u5bb9\uff0c\u5f9e\u91cd\u8996\u500b\u4eba\u751f\u547d\u5230\u793e\u5340\u6574\u9ad4\u751f\u614b\u7684\u4fdd\u8b77\uff0c\u5abd\u7956\u795e\u8e5f\u6709\u4e86\u6558\u8ff0\u4e0a\u7684\u8f49\u8b8a\u3002\u79ae\u7269\u4ea4\u63db\u95dc\u4fc2\uff0c\u63ed\u793a\u5edf\u5b87\u9593\u7684\u5f80\u4f86\u3001\u5b50\u6bcd\u5edf\u5206\u9999\u6216\u5206\u9748\u3001\u795e\u5c07\u6703\u7684\u4ea4\u966a\u7b49\u6a5f\u5236\uff0c\u8868\u9762\u4e0a\u662f\u300c\u79ae\u7269\u300d\uff0c\u9aa8\u5b50\u88e1\u537b\u662f\u300c\u4ea4\u63db\u300d\u3002\u300c\u7d66\u4e88\u300d\u8207\u300c\u6536\u53d6\u300d\u90fd\u662f\u7fa9\u52d9\uff0c\u62d2\u7d55\u79ae\u7269\u300c\u7121\u7570\u65bc\u5ba3\u6230\uff0c\u662f\u4e00\u7a2e\u65b7\u7d55\u53cb\u8abc\u548c\u4ea4\u5f80\u7684\u8868\u793a\u300d\u3002<\/p>\n

The present study aims at exploring the spread and development of Mazu beliefs in eastern Taiwan. To serve this purpose, the study includes in-depth discussion on the following themes: (1) the origin of the main worship god, the statue, and the historical background of the legend of Mazu’s miracles, (2) the establishment of affiliated organizations, the migration and aggregation of the believers, and (3) the interaction with the social contexts. Three areas of Yilan, Hualian, and Taitung are selected as the sites of this field research. It is hoped that we can better understand not only the changes of Mazu beliefs in the eastern and western regions of Taiwan but also the influence of the Mazu beliefs on the areas.<\/p>\n

The history of the reclamation and relocation process of the Han people in Houshan involves political manipulation, social changes, natural barriers of the environment, and the impact of natural disasters. The spread of the Mazu beliefs of Houshan was closely related to the factors mentioned above. The inscriptions on the steles provide evidence of the origin of the statue of Mazu and its Incense-offering. Field studies also confirmed that the spread and development of the Mazu belief in Houshan is directly or indirectly related to the migration and reclamation.<\/p>\n

The miracles, legends, and stories of Mazu’s presence are revelations responding to the real needs of people’s lives. Due to the differences in time and space and backgrounds of the ethnic groups, there will be different interpretations, perceptions or emotions towards the miracles. The narrative of Mazu’s miracles has undergone changes. The content of miracle events has shown greater diversity that covers dimensions of personal life to ecology of the community. The gift-exchange relationship between temples represents the mechanism of communication. Other social interactions between temples include the sharing of incense or deities between mother and son temples, and the exchange of performing groups. On the surface it is a “gift”, but in fact it is an “exchange”. Both “giving” and “receiving” are obligations, and refusing a gift is regarded as declaring an intention of breaking friendship and communication.<\/p>\n
